I have always loved handwritten things – notes to friends, messages on noticeboards left for others to discover, post it notes dotted around or letters to a distant relative or pen pal. Growing up I was always made to hand write ‘thank you’ cards and I will ensure that my daughter does the same as I think it adds that personal touch that makes it feel genuine.
Handwriting and Hearts began as a hobby in 2013 when my husband and I were invited to sixteen weddings in one calendar year (not to mention planning and attending our own)! I knew I wanted my place-cards to be handwritten but I couldn’t find anyone to write them as neatly as I wanted them to be (ok … I might be a little bit of a perfectionist) so I hand wrote them myself. Over the course of the year I also wrote the place-cards for many of the other weddings we attended as well as labels for sweet jars, chalk boards and table plans! I found writing the cards very therapeutic; it was a nice way to switch off from my very demanding full time job and I loved the look on the bride’s face when everything was just how she wanted it for her special day.
Following the birth of my daughter, and my maternity leave, I decided to have a break from teaching and took on some freelance IT work which allowed me to spend more time at home and, in turn, more time being creative; drawing, sketching and creating hand lettering designs. After lots of positive feedback and encouragement from others, I have taken the plunge and put myself out there as ‘Handwriting and Hearts’ to see if I can help others to bring their designs and ideas to life.
